Panchali

For quite some time, I had plan to make one simple outfit but with some intricate dyeing technique in it, I have done some miserably failed experiments involving different kinds of technique, until I finally came up with the latest one, that I must say, I am quite satisfied with the result. So people, hereby I proudly present to you; Panchali.

In sanskrit, Panchali means princess from Panchala, which refer to, surprise surprise.. Drupadi, a mythological figure whom the name became my inspiration in naming the label, draoupads. At first, I just want a name that could represent the colouring technique I used, since there are five process involved, so I'm thinking the word 'Panca', which means literally 'Five'. But I'm not quite into the name, so along came Panchali.

Here I share some photos in the colouring process, I basically did three times dyeing, and then I used the bleaching technique, and finished it with some crazy fabric paint splatter (seeing it again, it's kinda bit Dexter-ish isn't it? Hahaa.. Don't worry there are no dead bodies involves in making the tops ;P).

And here is the end result in close up. By the way I must remind you that the first picture (with model) and the rest of the pictures, are not the same motives *duh.. Well, just in case you wondering how come the result sudenly become yellow.

By the way, if you live in Yogya, around the third or fourth weeks of April, I will do a mini workshop on dyeing in Kedai Belakang cafe. The March Edition Shawl

Remember one of the post I tell you about trying new dyeing method with yarn?  Well, here goes the result!!
 I made a new design out of it, and call it "Kandil". When I design it, I was thinking about making a simple yet fun shawl. The kind of shawl that you can just wear it and have fun with it, in a simple way. So I made a shawl design that you can adjust the lenght and style. I still didn't have time to do a posting about how many style that you can do with the shawl, I hope I can do it soon. But I'm sure you can found more than enough way before I even publish the posting ;).

Besides the new design,  I also add some draoupads's classic design; "Kayon". 

The collection went all booked, and I feel bad, because I never though the response would be that good, so I didn't produce many. 

But don't worry, at this point I am starting to produce some more of Kandil and Kayon shawls!

I promise I will update it as soon as the collections are ready to be shipped!

Some Draoupads tops teaser..

I've just install this photo editor application in my chrome, and as you can see, I am very, I mean..verrrrry enjoying it. Since I don't even have any photoshop software in my laptop. Yess..you've read it rite, I don't have photoshop.. But I survive after all. So, here's some of teasers for my next tops collection. Hope you like it, as much as I edit the teasers! hahhahaaa... enjoy ;)

New Collection!! "Berteduh Sejenak"

Phew.. Finnaly, I'm able to finish some of the new collection, despite all the weather rage and cold atmosphere, which then led to a very dangerous subconciously effect on how my body works, let say like.... all day sleepy. Maan, those are real fight you know! ;P. 

Stop all the blabs, there now, I present you February Collection: "Berteduh Sejenak"! enjoy... 

The collection were actually start from my longing for Jogja, especially on a monsoon. I really miss the cold morning with a little drizzle that usually start the day, I miss how the city look more slow mo, and see every single human movement in such beauty, I miss riding my bike with my raincoat, I miss how I suddenly must to take shelter in a hard rain, and share some shade with strange yet friendly people. Okay, stop, I don't wanna start the day with watery eyes :(. 

Anywho, back to the topic! "Berteduh Sejenak" in English could be translated as to take shelter for a while. Just like what I usually did when I riding bicycle in a hard rain in Jogja. You know, for me its a beautiful 'pause' moment when you start to feel melancholy, when everything around feel so close and feel so foreignly beauty.. That kind of mood that made me start to do this collection. Well I hope you can feel it just like I do :)

PS: The new male model you see presenting the draoupads sling bag is Billy, whom is non other than Dinda's big brother! I know, they have good genes aren't they?!

Updating. (part 2: October Collection) "Di Sekitar Teras"

October Collection!! The inspiration basically comes from the sightings, the feelings and the mood that sorrounding when we woke up early and have a peacefull steps around the terace in the morning. This is my longing for that kind of moment that drives me to make such collection (note: Jakarta and Bogor in October are literary 'a hell', my... the temperatures just went soooo high, it came to the moment when I though my heads are going to explode..)

So, here are some pictures of it! (the collection off course, not the head..) ;P

Oh yeah, by the way I design a new model for the collection, I named it "Rahwana". I know its a weird name, especially for scarves. Actually, the name was given by my mother, when she sees the 'thing', she said it looked like the intestines of Rahwana. Yep...I know that doesn't make it less weird.. Well, you can read the whole info about Rahwana here, because I don't want you to have a wrong interpretation about the figure, when it cames from my mouth (or hands), besides..my hands are getting stiff due to the typing activity I had in this last week. You can call me lazy, its okay..;P

New Collection! "Terang Boelan"

First of all, saya harus membuat pengakuan: Koleksi ini sesungguhnya ditujukan sebagai koleksi bulan Juli. Tapi karena saya memutuskan bulan Juli saya HARUS liburan ke Jogja ;P, dan apresiasi yang ruarr biasa dengan koleksi Lintang Kemukus, akhirnya, terpaksa koleksi ini saya pending. Jadilah "Terang Boelan menjadi koleksi bulan Agustus

O yeah, the story! The inspiration is (ironically) based from the month 'July' itself. Saya lahir di bulan Juli, bulan ini lekat dengan kami kaum cancerian. Cancer merupakan zodiak yang dinaungi oleh Bulan, and that's where the idea's coming from!! Saya mencoba menggambarkan image Bulan, lewat grafis yang saya terapkan di setiap helainya dengan teknik bleach. Warna-warna celupan yang saya pilih pun cukup mengagetkan, simply because; there are no pastel colors AT ALL... indeed... mHuahahhaahhaaa... Daaaan satu lagi perbedaan koleksi ini dari koleksi lain; the size are much bigger than any shawl I have ever produce! Hei..you can use it as pashmina or even kerudung buat terawehan! ;) Here are some of the looks;

"Lintang Kemukus"

This is it! Finnaly, the new collection has arrive! ;)

The title 'Lintang Kemukus' basically a javanese languange for 'Falling Star'. The title's reminds me instantly with the result of some new methods I use in this time dye-ing techniques; a cosmic intergalactic feelings, my friend even says it 'dreamy'. It also describe how my personal struggle lately, and how I hope I'm getting my falling star prety soon :)..hiahahhaaa.. Well, overall, I must say, I'm very satisfied with the result :).
I launch the collection three times in three different models, this is the first one. So people, by this I present you:

"Lintang Kemukus", Edition: One

Senja Utama; Yogyakarta-Jakarta

Ini dia!! Koleksi terbaru Draoupads! :)

Saya selalu senang membagi sedikit sisi personal dari khidupan saya dalam karya-karya draoupads. Well, some people might use facebook for that particular activity,
Me? ..I use my work ;)

All I can say is this is the most emotional collection I've ever made so far.. For some who knows me, they can really tell by the title. Koleksi ini merupakan pengantar kepindahan saya dari Yogyakarta (kota yang sangat saya cintai, tempat saya berdomisili selama tiga tahun belakangan ini) ke Bogor.
"Senja Utama" adalah nama kereta yang biasa mengantar saya dari Jogja ke Jakarta dan sebaliknya.

Bisa dibilang ini keputusan paling berat yang saya ambil selama tiga tahun terakhir ini. Tapi untuk saat ini, inilah keputusan paling rasional yang harus saya ambil. *long sigh..
Judul itu juga merepresentasikan proses pembuatan koleksi ini yang bertempat di Yogyakarta dan Jakarta. Sebelumnya saya sudah memproduksi sembilan syal di Jogja. Pada saat saya harus ke Jakarta untuk waktu yang relatif lama, saya memutuskan untuk membuat sekitar delapan syal lagi di Jakarta. Kesembilan syal yang sebelumnya sudah setengah jadi, saya selesaikan beberapa di Jakarta.

 Aaaah.. and this is the legendary "studio alam" that I will definitely miss. Its exactly in Lila's front house! Lila also use it as Lemari Lila background, she love the right side of the wall, where you can find a beautiful 'bata expose' and sporadicly cement plaster background. while me.. you can tell how I not include the right side of the wall at all, hehheee... (sorry Ce) I'm craaaazy bout the old windows and the stack of the stones!!

Well then, wish me luck with all this 'hijrah' thing! :)

O ya, the best news is that;  the collection went all booked in just 4 hours after it is being launched! :)
